Skanska has signed a contract with the Florida Department of Transportation to construct the Pensacola Bay Bridge in Florida. The contract is worth $399 million. The Design-Build contract is to replace the existing bridge over Pensacola Bay with two new, three-lane bridges, connecting the cities of Pensacola and Gulf Breeze. Each new bridge will have a length of just over three miles. The total project length is 3.7 miles, including the roadway approaches on each end of the bridges. Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter 2016 and the project is slated for completion in August 2020.
Gramercy District Development is Underway
22 Capital Partners has chosen the project team for its more than $500-million development “Gramercy District,” a smart city project located just outside of Washington, D.C. The firm has put together a team capable of implementing the vision of a marriage between technology and real estate development to create a smart city of the future. Tishman Construction unit of AECOM will team up with TRINITY Group Construction. DVA Architects will design the Gramercy District campus. Western Specialty Contractors Completes Historic Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary Project
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – When the main cell house building at the historic Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary in San Francisco, California, was constructed in 1910-1912, prison workers mixed salt water from the surrounding San Francisco Bay and brick rubble in the concrete support beams. Coupled with the island’s extreme weather conditions, the large, cast-in-place concrete support beams in the original citadel and basement shower room areas that support the main cellblock structures began to deteriorate and fail, posing major structural damage to the historic building. BROOKHAVEN, Ga. – Earlier this week, the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club and Emory Healthcare began demolition on the future site of the Emory Sports Medicine Complex, their 90,000-square foot state-of-the-art training and sports medicine center. Western Specialty Contractors Restores Facade of 100+ Year Old Historic Courthouse
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Busy traffic, a steady flow of visitors and unique materials were among the challenges Western Specialty Contractors faced when it restored the stone façade of Charleston, Illinois’ historic Coles County Courthouse. Located in the public square in central Charleston and housing most of Coles County’s important administrative offices and courts, the courthouse is one busy facility.
