Construction has been completed on a new high-rise creative office building in the arts district of Los Angeles, California. Ware Malcomb provided architectural design services for the project; Lowe developed the project; and Swinerton provided general contracting services. The nine-story project totals more than 113,000 square feet and is situated along the Los Angeles River. It includes 109,100 square feet of office space, 3,400 square feet of ground-floor retail, four levels of parking for 275 vehicles, outdoor spaces including private terraces and a 3,000-square-foot rooftop deck/lounge with stunning views of the city and mountains. The National Fire Protection Association released its 2023 Industry Trends Survey, which reveals insights around employee sentiment on training and labor shortages, use of technology on the jobsite and how technology supports their top priorities. Nearly half of respondents (45%) said a shortage of qualified workers would be their biggest challenge at work in 2023. Western Specialty Contractors contracted with S and S Development to restore a damaged pedestrian bridge connecting the four-story Ridgedale Office Center to its parking structure in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Years of severe winter weather had deteriorated the concrete bridge, and ultimately the collision of a horse trailer into the structure prompted its immediate repair. Western worked directly with engineering firm Walker Consultants to design a replacement bridge railing system and estimate the repair work.
