Construction of Africa’s Tallest Tower Begins
Besix has been awarded a contract for the construction of the new 282-meter-tall F Tower, the sixth skyscraper in the business district of the city of Abidjan, southeast of the Ivory Coast. When completed, the F Tower will reportedly be Africa’s tallest tower. Besix will be handling site management, as well as civil engineering works, which begin this month on the basis of the existing foundations. Bouygues Bâtiment International to Build Africa’s Abomey-Calavi University Hospital
The Republic of Benin’s Ministry of Health has signed a contract with a consortium led by Bouygues Bâtiment International for the development and construction of the university hospital in Abomey-Calavi, Africa’s second largest city. Representing a total amount of €175 million, this project of more than 40,000 square meters on two levels will have a capacity of 434 beds and places. It will include six large hospitalization units. Surgical Facility Provides Services to Underserved Uganda Area
The Kyabirwa Surgical Facility in Uganda has recently opened. A a small building with a large purpose, the project was conceived with Mount Sinai Health Systems as a replicable prototype to bring surgery to underserved areas. Located in a rural town on the Nile, the building takes its form from banana plants on the site that gather energy from the sun and provide shade, and is constructed of locally sourced bricks.
