President and CEO Lakisha A. Woods, CAE, has been re-elected to a three-year term with the U.S. Green Building Council board of directors. Woods will serve as vice chair. McDonald’s Flagship-Disney Aims for Net-Zero Status

The McDonald’s Flagship-Disney, located in Orlando, Florida, recently completed construction, and aims to become the first net-zero restaurant in the quick-service industry. Under a shed clad in solar panels, the 8,024-square-foot restaurant, built by Southland Construction and designed by Ross Barney Architects, was envisioned and developed in response to the Florida climate. Energy consumption is reduced by optimizing building and kitchen systems. Energy is generated onsite by 18,727 square feet of photovoltaic panels, 4,809 square feet of glazing integrated photovoltaic panels and 25 off-the-grid parking lot lights produce more energy than the restaurant uses. ASCE Seeks Comments on New Professional Standard: Requirements for Sustainable Infrastructure

The American Society of Civil Engineers will conduct a public comment period on the new standard activity ASCE/COS 73-XX Standard Requirements for Sustainable Infrastructure. The public comment period will run until Jan. 25, 2021. The components and outcomes described in the chapters of this standard are intended to guide sustainable infrastructure development through the entire lifecycle process. First Ground-Up Project Complete for Turner Vancouver, British Columbia Team

Turner Construction Company’s Vancouver, British Columbia team celebrated its first ground-up project, with the recent completion of the Heather Place Redevelopment for Metro Vancouver Housing, located in Canada. The project included the construction of a five-story, 67-residential rental unit building, complete with a cast-in-place concrete structure, with fiberglass windows, a combination of metal, cement, brick veneer as well as exposed architectural concrete making up the exterior finishes. 1st Building in Denver Advantage Campus Framework Plan Welcomes Students

The University of Denver, along with Saunders Construction, recently completed the Dimond Family Residential Village, the first-year residence hall on the DU Campus, which was delivered in time for the start of the fall quarter. The Dimond Family Residential Village is a 132,000-square-foot residence hall, and last month, the doors opened to students for move-in day. This is the first of three buildings scheduled to open this academic year under DU’s Denver Advantage Campus Framework Plan.
