Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, a young Cardin “Dean” Rackley would attend summer programs at the Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club on Grand Avenue. Playing basketball and swimming at the club were his favorite activities, he fondly remembers. But even more than playing sports, Rackley remembers the sense of pride, respect for others, sportsmanship, academics and teambuilding that the club’s dedicated staff and directors instilled on his impressionable, young mind during those hot St. Louis summers. Renovation of Historic Ford Auditorium at Berry College Takes Center Stage
High-performance acoustics, digital lighting and sound systems and reconfigured audience seating are among enhancements underway during renovation and restoration of historic Ford Auditorium on the campus of Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The renovation—funded by gifts from more than 400 alumni and friends—will enhance the experiences of artists and audience members alike, delivering benefits from improved sightlines to impressive multimedia capabilities, while preserving and restoring historic elements of the facility, which dates to the late 1920s. Construction Reality Show Seeks to Close Income Gap
The Percy Jobs & Careers Center launched Master Craftsmen, an online reality show, featuring craftsmen who use their skills and specialized knowledge to build today’s modern infrastructure. The show is designed to reestablish the skilled trades as an opportunity to move up the income ladder and comes at a time when skills are responsible for the growing disparity in income. Plenary Consortium Selected for Corner Brook Acute Care Facility Project
Corner Brook Health Partnership consortium has been selected to design, build, finance and maintain a new acute care hospital in Corner Brook, located in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, with an estimated contract value of $750 million. The new seven-story, 600,000-square-foot hospital will be connected to the 145-bed long-term care home that Plenary Health is building on the site. It will have 164 beds with the same services provided at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, as well as an expanded cancer care program including radiation services.
