The International Concrete Repair Institute recently announced the winners of its 2020 Project Awards. The Austonian – Exposed Slab Edge Repairs was chosen as the ICRI 2020 Project of the Year. This year, three finalists were chosen. Less than six years after construction of a 59-story building located in downtown Austin, Texas, a large piece of concrete from a slab edge fell more than 200 feet. Joint Venture Selected to Construct $124.5M Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport

The joint venture led by Skanska, along with New South Construction, FS360 and Synergy Construction, has been selected to construct five additional gates at the north end of Concourse T at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (Hartsfield-Jackson) in Georgia. In addition to building the gates, the joint venture will also rebuild a major portion of the North Terminal exit road, construct a Delta Air Lines ground support equipment facility and a fire station, as well as oversee relocations to the utilities’ infrastructure. Vertical Construction Grows Tall at New Australian Embassy Building

In downtown Washington, D.C., vertical construction is underway at the Australian Embassy’s new chancery after a year-long effort onsite to remove the existing building and excavate the below-grade structure. Construction Seasons Begin at Antarctic Research Hub

A 20-person-plus team is working on the second season of building a new science and operations building located in Antarctica. Construction can only take place during a short window during the Antarctic summer months, avoiding the harsh, dark winter. This season, the team aims to complete the pre-cast concrete foundations, ground floor slab, rock anchors and stub columns, as well as drainage and the perimeter wall, before returning in December to complete the outer structure.
